How Varicose Vein Treatments Help Improve Your Legs

By Larry Brooks

Somerville, NJ is a health conscious town. People spend their days outdoors getting some sun and tanning, performing yoga at the local square, eating out on the street from passing food trucks, or visiting the farmer markets to buy fresh produce for dinner. But for some people it is impossible to do all these because of their medical conditions.

Other reasons include excessive pressure from the large uterus and successive pregnancy. There are hundreds of general practioners in Somerville, NJ that run treatment centers. These are not serious medical conditions.

Varicose and spider veins are usually inherited from family. Other reasons included menopause, puberty, pregnancy, hormone replacement therapy, and birth control pills. A pregnant woman have a higher chance of development because of high levels of hormones, increased blood volume, successive pregnancy, and too much pressure from the uterus.

Swelling in ankles is not serious, but over the years this worsen very slowly. Skin around the ankle is damage by the high pressure on the vein, and this gives the skin a brownish color and scarring look. Other symptoms include eczema and ulcer. Common complications include phlebitis and deep vein thrombosis. Phlebitis is the inflammation of veins with blood clotting or thrombosis.

Doctors will use a continuous wave Doppler during assessment. This will help find the site of the vein, see how the blood flows in the blood stream, and also determines the necessary treatments to be done. A thorough examination is usually preferred for patients with an existing medical condition called deep vein thrombosis. The most common surgery that patient undergo is stripping and ligation, an incision about the diameter of two inches are made within the upper portion of the varicose veins twice. One near the groin and the other near the knee or ankle.

Existing treatments are radiofrequency ablation, endothermal ablation, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy, and endovenous laser treatment. Surgery is done through ligation and stripping, This is often painful and cause bleeding and bruising but there is no risk of blood flow being affected. However there are exceptions like DVT or nerve damage.

Treatments are prescribed but sometimes a surgery is necessary. In the field there are endothermal ablation, radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser treatment, and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy. Most doctors often refer to surgery as ligation and stripping.

Varicose often cause discoloration of the leg. This contributes to the insecurity and loss of confidence. Discoloration and scarring occurs because the skin is damage from the pressure around the ankle due to the enlarge vein. Often ladies would sign up for surgeries for this, but checking with a doctor is highly recommended because there are many known treatments.

But it does not prevent new veins from appearing or preventing complications from getting worse. Ligation and stripping surgery often requires tying off the vein and removing it. Two small incisions at least two inches in diameter are made. Near the groin the first cut is made near the top, and around the knew or ankle the second cut is made. Then from the top vein is tied and sealed. Passing through the bottom is a thin and flexible wire that is pulled out and remove through the lower cut. The surgery can be painful and cause bruising and bleeding. Complications are rare except for nerve damage or DVT. But blood flow is not affected and recovery only takes three weeks.
